Network connection problems

Hi Folks,

I'm using an N-lite version of WinXP.

I am using the identical copy on two computers, one a desktop and one
an EeePC.

I can connect to the web on the desktop but not on the EeePC.
I also can't connect via wireless on the EeePC.

What services/drivers would need to be working on the EeePC in order
to connect.

At first I tried a wireless connection, but when that didn't work I
decided to try for a LAN connection.

There is an icon showing an attempted connection but when you click on
the icon it says:
Obtaining network
address......................................................
