Iy means that Windows doesn't have the driver in its stock so you have
to go the the site of the maker of the equipment concerned and download
it from there

Somehow, I'm not getting through with my questions.
The card slot came with the computer. WindowsXP Pro has , until now,
always used the card with ease --- I used SD cards for back-ups of
data files.
But, apparently, somehow I messed up Windows. Now it doesn't
recognize the card as existing. I do a new hardware search. It finds
it. But when I try to "install" it, Windows gives a message that it
can't do so because it can't find software. I ask for a search,
it crashes and goess to green screen. I have to unplug the computer
and reboot to get anything.
The same thing happens when I try to use a USB hard drive.
I did a system restore back to a date that was before I realized
the problem but it hasn't helped.
