I can create another account with administrator rights and that account will
allow me to "sort the start menu".
I've tried the MS knowledge base tips, but the computer always finds "another program in use" and can't complete the transfer.
How do I fix the HP administrator account or migrate all of its settings to
the new administrator account?
I'm not sure what you mean by "complete the transfer." At any rate, you can effectively sort the entire sort menu by deleting the menu order information from the registry. As always, don't screw with the registry unless you know what you're doing.
Delete this key, and all of it's subkeys/values:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu2
Be wary that the registry path above is wrapped--you will be deleting a key named "Start Menu2"
.
