WiFi Signal Level, Speed, (Quality) indicated on Laptop,

I use an older Toshiba S1135,
Sun Java,
Personal A/P is Linksys WAP 54 G, WEP.
Used many other Corporate A/P's of various brands,
with Java.
I Mainly use Firefox, but IE works fine with a java app (streaklines, SF Bay
winds) over all the various A/P's I have used.
My suggestion is to try Firefox and see if tat has the same problem.
