I'm trying to help a friend wipe a computer clean. I searched the
group here and someone says there is no true DOS in XP? Where can we
go to give the command to Format C?
Can someone give us the instructions?
Thanks
I think you'll need to create a dos boot floppy or dos boot cd to do what
you want. In your BIOS, set the computer to boot from cd or floppy first
(whichever you have), then you can use the format command. I presume you're
aware that you will be formatting the system drive (C:) and that means that
Windows, all other programs and all other files will be erased. Take a look
at bootdisk.com and that site might have what you need.
There are other programs for wiping the hard drive, too. Google search for
a disk eraser or disk wipe and you'll get many choices. HTH, JG
