Hi all,

For some strange reason the homepage of the ISP just fails to load in any
browser that I use in Windows XP. However, the same works in Linux.
The error I get after a few seconds is 'Network Timed Out'. The network
link icon shows that network is fine.

This is 3rd time such a problem happened. On last two occasions, after
the pc was shutdown overnight, the homepage came up.

I tried the following in XP now:

Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig/flushDNS and also ipconfig/release and
ipconfig/renew but to no avail.

Use the (which browser?)s feature to clear cache, cookies and history.

Or change to another browser.

Hi Wisdom,

Thanks for your reply. As mentioned in my post it happens in any browser I
use. IE, FF, Opera. Clearing cache, cookies does NOT help.
For some strange reason this happens and after thepc is shutdown for a long
period, say overnight or the entire day, then the ISP page comes up.

Regards,
Arty

Hmmm! I have questions because I am seeing a similar thing recently (dual
boot: XP pro/Ubuntu Hardy on a Dell 4600). Your observations may help me
isolate my/your problem further.

1 Are you using a Netgear router for DHCP (Please name your brand if not)?

2 Is there a machine that ran Ubuntu Hardy release that was booted at the time
the problem occurs?

3 Does rebooting the router after shutting down the Linux box, make the
internet available to other machines?
.
