I am running Windows XP Pro on my pc and decided to install a new DVD
burner. A simple removal and install. Went to boot for the first
time and upon the boot, it stops with this message: "Disk Boot
Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter". I checked all cables
thinking in the process of installing the new dvd burner that I pulled
something loose. I ended up pulling the hard drive out and installed
it in a USB case and checked it on another computer to make certain
the drive wasn't bad. After that I was going to do a Fix MBR from dos
and the fix boot, but it stated if I go any further that I could loose
all that was on my drive because the partition wasn't right. It's
possible I used WD's data lifeguard tool to partition this drive.
From there I put the window install disk in the drive and was looking
around for something and the next thing I knew was that my computer
booted with the windows disk in. I tried booting again without, but
had to put the windows disc back in my D drive to boot. I would like
some help on knowing what to do to get back to booting without using
my disk. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Do you feel obligated to loose all that was on your drive because the
partition wasn't right?
