I have googled and tried to understand what happens but the finds are not
100% clear....well to me anyway.
According to numerous reports, the installation of XP SP3 has a major
affect on files intelppm.sys and amdk8.sys. Both files being used by Intel
and AMD based machines. Also the majority of reported problems have
occurred with HP AMD machines with a very few clone AMD machines fitted
with ASUS MoBo's.
I have an AMD based self build on a Foxconn MoBo. Searching the files I
only have intelppm.sys on my system...........no signs of amdk8.sys
anywhere.
Looking through the files of 2 other machines I have upgraded, both Intel
based, before being informed AMD's are at risk, they both too only have
intelppm.sys files. Both machines had no problems during and after the
update.
Am I fairly safe to carry out the update on my AMD machine..............do
you think. Anyone here had no problems updating an AMD system.

Created a restore point then checked the registry to ensure intelppm.sys (no
sign of it in there anyway) would load. Downloaded KB936929 and installed it
in less than 15 mins.......booted fine, all looks good, thanks.
