Re: xp will not load cdrw drivers

O.K. I know that XP does not need drivers for cd rom.
I have deleted the cd in device manager, physically removed the cd rom from
the computer and turned the computer on. Device manager showed no cd. I shut
the computer down, reinstalled the cd rom and turned the computer back on.
The cd was put back into device manager but still does not work, light comes
on,cd spins but control panel does not show a title on the cd drive and
clicking start/run/browse shows a cd window with no info about the cd. I
have tried 3 different cd roms and got the same results. Also I have changed
the ribbon cable and still no change.

any thoughts?

My son-in-law has an upgraded compac computer he just got from a friend
that only had a cdr. he was given a cdrw and set it up as a slave.

Everything was working fine till he got it into his head that he should
delete some files. To make a long story short, He messed up and delegated
files he should not have. After trying to fix it he gave up and formatted
the hd and reloaded xp. Now the comp. sees the cdrw but will not load the
drivers. (he used a win 98 startup disk to load basic cdr drivers to load
xp back on the hd)

I got him the drivers for the cdrw off Driver Guide. and he is trying to
use just the cdrw alone, when he tries to install the drivers the system
tells him that the driver and the cdrw do not match.I have checked the mod
# on the cdrw and the driver spects. and they do match.

Does any one know what happened and how to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
