Why don't you build your own computer? You get to select a nice case and the
best components instead of factory seconds and the satisfaction is
priceless. Usually the overall cost is less too.

Went to Best Buy and bought a 4 port USB 2.0 PCI card and installed it andthe
now all are working again connected to the 4-port Dynex card. Thanks for
the advice and the next computer I buy will not be an HP. I own 2 HP
printers and have had problems with both. I now own an Epson printer. I
have had 2 HP DVD burners and had problems with both. I now own 2 LG
burners and have never had any problems with them. I own a Compaq laptop
which is now owned by HP and have had nothing but problems with it. The
next computer I buy will have Linux installed on it or it will be made by
Apple. HP is crapware.

MAxtor will. DOes anyone know for sure.???
They all work on PCI or PCI-X cards.

Why not just invest in a PCI USB card - and hub up ?

Is there a way to get USB 2.0 ports on an HP Media Center PC running
Windows XP Media Center 2005 working again. They have ceased
sending power to any device connected to any USB port that requires
power from the computer to operate. Items that once worked that
required power from the computer that no longer work at all are
1. A 5th generation ipod
2. A Maxtor One touch external 250 GB hard drive
3. A 5gb QuickDrive
When the ipod is connected it used to automatically invoke itunes.
Now when it is connected to a USB port the message UNKNOWN DEVICE
appears and states that it has malfunctioned. No it hasn't
malfunctioned. Something in Windows XP Media Center hgas
malfunctioned.
When the Maxtor One Touch is connected it used to automatically
invoke the One Touch backup software. Now when it is connected to a
USB port the message UNKNOWN DEVICE appears and states that it has
malfunctioned. No it hasn't malfunctioned. Something in Windows XP
media Center has malfunctioned.
the same is true for the QuickDrive.
I have spent hours in chat with HP agents. To no avail. All they
know is to look in a manual and crack out like a parrot and then
apologize for the concern. This is a repeated over and over process
which ends up with no positive results.
I have installed the latest bios update for the ASUS P5LP-LE
motherboard that is in the HP Media Center PC.
I have installed the latest INTEL chipset drivers for the chipset on
the motherboard.
I have tried uninstalling all references to USB in the device
manager and restarted the computer to reload all of the drivers new
and to no avail. Nothing seems to reinstate what once worked.
Having done this process over and over many times on occasion on a
restart after uninstalling the usb references it will connect to the
ipod and invoke itunes but itunes will
set on syncing the ipod for hours. The the ipod update will fail to
install if it is selected from itunes. The very next time the
computer is restarted it will forget about recognizing the ipod once
again
Pcdoctor finds no problem with the US ports. The Maxtor backup
drive and the QuickDrive work just fine on different computers.
According to Apple the ipod will only work with itunes on the
computer is was installed with and cannot be transferred to another
computer. Can't do a system reformat and install because don't have
restore cds and even if I did, I would lose at least 4 dozen
programs downloaded from I-net and installed from Inet. Most if not
all of those vendors will not supply a second download of their
product for no charge.
Can anyone reflect any positive advice on this delima.
