anybody know a good program for xp pro for finding open wireless
networks
http://www.stumbler.net/
"Netstumbler is the best known Windows tool for finding open
wireless access points ("wardriving"). They also distribute a WinCE
version for PDAs and such named Ministumbler. The tool is currently
free but Windows-only and no source code is provided. It uses a more
active approach to finding WAPs than passive sniffers such as Kismet
or KisMAC."
all it is, is that i have a friend that is a international truck
driver in europe and at the moment it is costing him a fortune in
mobile calls for his wife to keep in touch with him. at least if he
had a wireless sniffer he could chat for free instead of phoning.
hope that answers your question.
Most truck parkings in Europe provide wireless Internet access. No need
for some sniffer tool, just fire up the computer when his vehicle is
parked and let windows look for available networks. He can utilize
wireless networks only when parked, when driving he'd loose connection
within seconds.
