Many thanks, that seems to have done it. Only hope I haven't messed
something else up, but everything seems to be OK up to now. Thanks again

hello,There are a couple of workarounds which might work for you.
can anyone tell me how to get rid of a program that WILL NOT uninstall
via the authorised add /remove system.
I have a program called 4oD ( it's to do with Channel 4 TV in the UK).
It's useless but I can't get rid of it off my computer. The uninstall
system just hangs half way through.
TIA
First check the directory in "windows explorer". There might be an
uninstall file in the directory where you have the program.
If not then you might try to just delete the directory directly. Then run
a good registry cleaner to remove any reference to this program. Of
course, back up the registry first.
Do several reboots to clean out the memory.
If the program or any parts of it load or try to load go into task manager
and close any processes that might show up there. Then go into
windows/system32 and find the process there and either rename it and if no
further reference to it delete that file.
This is the work around I use when I want to delete a program that causes
me pain and won't let me delete in the usual way.
I take it slow and backup lots of things before deleting them. If I screw
up, always a possibility, I reinstall the program and start over again.
This system usually works but can be time consuming.
good luck and regards,
.
