Re: Still waiting

In June 2006 I upgraded from an Athlon XP system.
I was thinking that the PC industry (AMD, Intel, Microsoft ect..) was
entering a new age.

I'm still waiting for:
M$ Windows Vista 64bit drivers or ( Windows Vista SP1)
DirectX 10 games and drivers
nVidia and AMD/ATI to ship 256 bit mid-range cards for DX10

I see no reason to upgrade the above system to a :
- Window Vista premium OS (64bit version)
- Duel core 64bit processor
- 2 GB duel channel overclockable RAM (DDR3)

I ran the Athlon XP (32bit) system for four year before upgrading.
I guest it will be the same for the Athlon 64?

Well my GF is a *serious* Photoshop user...so I built a dual core machine
for her...
and since we were not sure what was supported for 64 bit...set the machine
up to dual boot XP_32 and XP_64.

Then we got a new Epson Printer. The prionter worked fine as did all the
on-board harware.

Since Photoshop did run better on the 64 bit side...
once we were sure everything worked I set the machine to boot to the 64bit
side by default...
and in the last year she's never had to boot to the 32bit version once.

The only difficulty I had was finding a wireless net card that worked.
Reading the specs...though most said XP support...Few of them *specifically*
said they'd work with 64bit XP.

I took a chance and bought one from NewEgg and though the drivers for 64bit
were supplied and were installed...
I dinked around for hours to try to get the thing to work reliably. I
finally gave up and it only took me ten minutes to get a cable
to that loaction! NewEgg gave me a refund (less a small restocking fee)

What Microsoft *should* have done was to have never developed Vista...
but instead have called XP_64 the *new* operating system...

then we would have gotten plenty of good 64bit apps and hardware!

Sheesh <G>
