wireless with no ssid

Can XP's own wireless use APs that don't broadcast their ssid?

I've set one up here for occasional use; works fine if id is on, auto connects etc. If the id is off it won't pick it up and, of course, isn't displayed in the available networks list. Switch id back on, auto connects again.

[I set auto connect on as that's what I wanted]

A simple tweak or not?
