Sadly this is all too common. Especially with older software.
Running as a regular user IMHO is a serious pain in the ass.
Yeah, basically it's not possible in most cases to do this smoothly on
windows prior to Vista and Vista sucks at this as well. It's such a simple
concept, and it's mind numbing that MS hasn't got this *** sorted out yet.
I know many will yell that MS is evil, and I would probably be the first to
do so, but this is not evil, it's simply incompetent on their part and on
the part of the individual software developers. One suggestion I can give,
at least on Windows XP, is to setup the Admin account with almost no bling
and preferably not even explorer shell. Basically, if you can have the
Admin account to only consume about 20mb of ram wile running, you can have
it simply run in the background all the time and switch to it for admin
type stuff.
