tforms1@xxxxxxxxx aka ,after much thought, came up with this jewel:
My parents have an old computer that they use.
They mainly use it for:
1. Stock trading
2. Email
3. Talking to friends overseas with Skype
They are not editing videos, or listening to mp3s, etc...
But the computer is very old, the specs are:
500 megahertz Intel Celeron
192 Megabytes RAM
2.5 gigs free in the harddrive (out of 8 gigs)
Their xp is on service pack 2 right now.
What is a good (and cheap) method to make it run better?
Bigger harddrive?
More ram?
I offered to buy them a new computer for $500, but you know how
parents are, they think its a waste of money.
So I figure a new harddrive (I have an extra 40 gig drive) or more
ram, I can put it into the computer and they wouldn't know.
But they would recognize a new desktop.
Thanks
-Tony
Making sure their system is free of malware and adding 512mb more ram
will boost the speed plenty.
