Windows XP doesn't detect the CD drive
If I were at my old job, I'd swap out the drive. Being as how I'm retired
now and don't have spares lying around, I could use some advice.
My wife's Dell Dimension with Windows XP SP2, has lost the ability to detect
the CD/DVD drive. It doesn't show up at all in Device Manager and is not
detected as new hardware during a boot. I don't have an install disk (for
the drive that couldn't read it anyway), and when I try to select the
manufacturer from the menu, Hitachi isn't listed.
I've reseated all of the cables.
Any suggestions other than replacing the drive?
Thanks.
Lionel
