XP Power Settings

Hi,

There are many quirks to XP I know but this one is a real irritation. I am
using XP Pro (SP2) with a relatively new build (total new computer). I set
the power scheme for "Home/Office Desk" with settings of "Turn off monitor =
After 10 mins", Turn off hard disks = After 30 mins" and "System standby =
Never". I am logged in as Administrator. I set the values and click both
"Apply" and "Ok". I have also tried creating a new scheme with the same
settings and saved it with the same bad results. Also tried other time
settings. I get no error messages. I have checked for spyware and virus
with updated applications - all is Ok. I have googled the Internet and
found many articles on this subject but no answers that work for me.

Most times I notice after 10 minutes as well as after hours, the monitor is
still on. When I check the power option schemes (Control Panel - Power
Options - Power Options Properties) the "Turn off monitor" has set itself to
"Never". Other times it is still set to "After 10 mins" but the monitor is
still on anyway. Sometimes (very few) the monitor actually goes off on time
and the settings are found to be correct.

Can someone please suggest what should work or point me to some good
information?

Thanks in advance,
Ray
