I have heard of these redundant computers being used when it is critical to
have no down time in a business from a computer breaking down. I need a
system that treats the slave computer like a redundant hard drive for
everything (both software, OS and files). Something like to create mirror
of master computer on the slave.

OS: Windows XP or Vista
Software: EMR (medical software), appointmets scheduler, MS Office, etc.

Thanks

They do that for Servers.
Google: Vinca Server

You might try home networking the second (old, slave) comp to the
primary (Master) comp via ethernet and backing up the first comp using
the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. : Therefore you'll have two
running computers with identical files on them. Just remember to copy
all new and changed files from the master to the slave and vice-versa
regularly to keep the two virtually identical. Also back up the master
pc's HD to the slave pc's hard drive and vice-versa. The only problem
that can arise with this setup is if the network breaks down in some
way due to a hardware failure, say, in the network interface card of
either comp; otherwise, apart from internet service loss, it's fairly
infallible - other than the cost of extra electricity used powering
two computers; but it might use up a fair bit of extra time(?).

About making a ghost backup or a RAID hard disk hot swaps - both ways can't
be use. Whole thing must be done by a woman at the front desk by switching
between A and B computer (by pressing a button at VGA/keyboard/mouse
switch).
