you need to use winamp or media player to rip the songs onto the computer
Thank you ever so much; Media Player did the trick

Maybe I'm just having a senior moment.
I have a CD that I'd like to copy the first track on it,
from the CD to my computer.
Windows XP says its a Winamp Media file with Read-Only
attributes. None of my manuals seems to address this issue:
Am I forbidden by XP's rules from copying a Read-Only
music track onto my CD?
I've tried just about every way I can think of to copy the darn
thing but it never gets written onto the hard drive.
What am I missing? I can certainly play it using Winamp from the
CD drive, but not get it over to a folder on the hard drive.
Why?
TIA :-)
