problem with .dll file

Hi--

Here's a challenge for someone --

--running windows xp pro. service pack 2 (1GB RAM, 3.0 processor)
--computer was offline for a couple weeks, reconnected it the other day
and downloaded the latest microsoft updates.
--DID NOT reboot at the time b/c was working on a bunch of stuff
--left on overnight, next AM am greeted by the blue screen with the
following message:

Stop: C0000221 bad image checksum the image netapi32.dll is possible
corrupt The header check sum does not match the computed checksum

--could not boot to windows, could not boot into "last good
configuration" or "safe mode (of any kind)" Read some documentation at
the Microsoft help site about downloading new versions of the .dll file
and replace the corrupt one thru recovery console. Well, i was not
confident of my ability to accomplish this without screwing something
else up. So, I ran the windows xp repair off the install disk. This
worked for a couple hours but then i returned to find a continously
rebooting machine that would end up in the blue screen as mentioned
above.

Does anyone have any suggestions of my next move? I would certainly
appreciate it!

Cathy
