Folder Lockup

If I try to open a folder with a movie (mpg) in it the folder will lockup. I
cannot open the movie, also I cannot use File, Edit, View and others. I also
cannot close the window with X. I have to use Ctl,Alt,Delete.
The mpg file has an icon that looks like Windows Media Player.

Note: I can use another program, such as Windows Media Player, by clicking
on Open and then going to the folder and clicking on the movie. It will load
the mpg file and play it.

This has been driving me crazy for days. Any and all help will be
appreciated.
