In Win98SE when you brought up Device Manager, there was a "Refresh" button for when you powered up a device after your computer was on.
In WinXP there is no such "Refresh" button in Device Manager. Is there something similar in WinXP that refreshes the OS to know you have turned on a device after booting?

In device manager, at the top of the list, right click the computer name and click "Scan for hardware changes".
