If it's shared by another user they could easily add a prefix number. I use renamemaster for this, excellent little freebie. Actually there's so little real info posted I probably should not have responded. I think the malfunctioning hd post tickled my humor and got me going.beenthere wrote:"RockMusicManiac34" <madden_master@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:1151398073.718697.119300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxIf ripped files have a numeric prefix, this is the software used. I don't know what would do likewise to existing files, but you mention it's shared. Shared by whom, ordering tracks by prefixing a sequence number is one way to ensure a play sequence. A failing hd isn't a very credible explanation. As you can probably tell by my nickname, i love rock music. So I haveWith a collection like that you should have a Backup.
over 2500 mp3 files in my shared music folder (I'm on a network w/
other computers and a Xbox 360). I have XP home and anway my music
folder recently started changing the filename for all my mp3's EX:
Collective Soul - Shine changes to 11 Shine. Not only that, but windows
explorer is also not changing the filename back unless i rename it and
close my shared music folder and re - open it. It didn't start doing
this untill i put certain files that i ripped from a cd into it. But
now it is not just those files, but all of the files in it. Any help
would be greatly appriciated.
You could lose the lot !.
You`ve either got Malware on your machine, OR
your Hdrive is in trouble.
D\load Hdrive utilities for your drive. And Test.
Get, and use, Adaware, Spybot and something like AVG.
You can google them.
I`ve got my collection backed up on an external drive, Just
In Case.

Read the OP again Dave.
The existing files in the folder are changing names.
