In services there is no entry for automatic updates. I haven't
found a way to make it appear so I can turn it on. Any ideas?
Thanks. Jimbo

Stay outa the service's section, sir. Before you cause *** to
go all pear shaped.

Right click on 'My Computer', go to properties, then the
'Automatic Updates' tab. To enable and disable Automatic
updates. --

I tried to enable Automatic Updates but it doesn't actually turn
that feature on. A look in services show it is missing. SO
something has removed it from services. It was there a couple
months ago.

Make sure you have the BITS service started.

I have BITS running. Still no way I can get AU to appear in
SERVICES much less turn it on. My thinking is that I need to get
it to appear in SERVICES then I can turn it on.When a user turns
Automatic Updates off it still shows up listed in SERVICES. It
won't just dissapear from there. Somehow I must have wiped it out
of existance. I think I'll try reinstalling sevice pack 2.

Did you fucking even look at the link i gave you ?

I looked, I tried it, but it didn't work. No dice. I think it's time
I give Bill Gates a call on my red phone.

I'd say then you've got a couple things you can do. Reinstall sevice
pack 2 as you've already mentioned. Reinstalling service pack 2 will
reinstall 95 % of the OS,so that should do it for you. Or you could
do a repair installation.

A repair install didn't fix the problem, things remain the same. When
I tried reinstalling service pack2, it installed hunfreds of files
then it came up with this error message;

"Service Pack 2 Setup Access is denied. SP2 installation did not
complete. Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work
properly."

What registry cleaners have and do you run to clean up your registry ? I'll
toss out a guess, Registry Mechanic ? If you've ran some registry cleaning
software, you may have fucked up the registry.
