Re: PC won't boot
First try entering the BIOS to set the CD/DVD drive as the first boot
drive, and then try booting the system from the XP installation CD - if
you have one.
If you have a Recovery CD, try using that,but remember that it usually
restore the PC to the state it was in when it left the factory. If so,
your data files might be destroyed.
If you can boot the system from the XP CD, read the information on this
page that tells you how to perform a repair installation:

You don't boot from the CD "from linux". ... but how you do this varies depending on your BIOS. ... you reach the GRUB menu then you're too late - the PC is already booting from ... should probably boot from the CD you installed from and select Installation, ...
