Drive come on exactly three minutes after inactivity

I am using XP Corporate. I have a Red Dragon mobo, 2.0Gig AMD and 1Gig
memory. I use AVG Virus, AdAware, and Spybot S&D daily.
Three days ago I noticed that exactly three minutes after keyboard or mouse
inactivity, the drive light comes on and stays on until I either move the
mouse or press a key. I don't know what is causing this. I have removed all
the software I installed for the past three days, but it is still doing
this. Now I know Windows is constantly writing and deleting files while it
is running, but how can I be sure my computer isn't being 'hijacked'?
Thank you for any help!
