Thanks. GSpot said it is DivX 5.0.
I downloaded DivX 6.1 and install it.
My WinDVD can play these files now.

I downloaded some tv show files with avi extenstion that I believed
was ripped from Satellite TV in DVB-S format. When I tried to play
it with windows xp media player and it gave me the following error

support the file type or might not support the codec that was
ysed to compress the file.

What codec do you need to play this type of files and where can I
get them? The version of media player I am using is 10.00.00.3990

I have no idea which of the many codecs available might have been
used.
The most likely are DivX or Xvid.
To find out, download GSpot from http://gspot.headbands.com/
(it's free)
Install and Run GSpot and point it at the file to get codec info about
the file, and what you need to run it.
