Java Update?

When I booted up this a.m., the XP OS task bar opened a little
window saying that there were Java Updates ready to download and install.

So I went along and kept clicking okay and they downloaded and
then "almost" installed, except with a window saying the final installation
would take a few minutes nothing happened for over a half hour.

Plus I couldn't open anything, even Explorer. Plus, it wouldn't shut down.
I figured maybe SpySweeper and the install prog were in contention,
so I did a cold shutdown.

Now I'm ignoring the window that keeps saying that there are Java
Updates ready to download and install. I believe it was JS2E or some
such that was trying to get itself installed.

Anybody have any experience with this? What gives?

TIA

:-)
