Strip as much out as you can with the machine still bootable.
Bung stuff back until the problem occurs, the last thing you put back is
most probably the cause.
For example, if you have two or more sticks of RAM, use one to begin with,
if all is OK then shove another in.
If you have one of those motherboards that have lots of things integrated
then you may run into problems. One common cause of a PC slow down is a
problem with the NIC, if that's integrated then you could try disabling it
in the BIOS, if you don't have any luck with the cards then disable all the
onboard peripherals in the BIOS and perform similar troubleshooting of
enabling one thing at a time to see if something in particular causes the
problem to occur.
The whole problem can be very tedious, often after removal and reinsertion
of everything you find the problem goes away so you may wish to reseat
everything first and see if that clears it up.

Lunch was nice;
Skewered earwax balls and tendon extract complemented by bad-smelling
hedgehog running sore over-ripe aside stewed flea giblet, dished up in a
turbid casserole chock full of warm morsels of chive, kelp and banana pepper
in rat piss, a side of walnut and a few ounces of mouldy yoghurt.
