How to check system resorses in win xp

I feel sure I am having a problem with system recourses in win xp, sense win
Me I haven't been able to locate my system recourses, so I will know if
they are low. I do not have spyware on my computer as I have programs to
protect me their. so that isn't my problem. and I have 512 memory. but if I
load about 2 programs I start slowing down to a crawl. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.
