Re: A few questions about the symptoms of Fibromyalgia

I had a barium swallow, Ultrasounds every 6 months and needle Biopsies every
year, all show nothing except growing goiters. I don't have Hishimoto but
take Synthroid as a precaution to try to stop the growth of the goiter. The
synthroid doesn't seem to be working too well but I feel better taking it
and it helps with my PolyCystic Ovaries by regulating my cycles.

Have you had a speech therapist do an evaluation (barium swallow)? You
do that
to rule out other problems.

The thing is that goiters move around. So, I may go weeks with no problem
and
then not be able to swallow well. I need my 2nd goiter out--I'm having
horrendous problems with my thyroid anti-bodies. You need an ultra sound
and
maybe a needle biopsy.

Have you been diagnosed with Hashimotos' Thyroiditis--or has it been ruled
out?

Sorry, I've been this route more than once--so I have tons of questions.

Let me put it another way. I believe that only a very few people with FM
have
swallowing issues due to FM--it usually turns out to be something else.
Thyroid
problems are common with FM.

Hi Nancy,
I have a goiter, two actually, one on each and the largest is about 3cm.
I
get ultrasounds every 6 months and was told the goiter was not causing the
swallowing problem. I'vew been to an Endocrinologist, ENT and Gastro doc.
I have read that swallowing difficulties can be a symptom of Fibro ....
now
I'm more confused.

The swallowing issue is NOT fibro. Get your doctor to pursue what it
is.
Have
your thyroid checked. I could not swallow and they found a baseball
size
tumor/goiter on my thyroid.

For now, fibro is a lifelong thing. Some people manage to have
remissions. Some
people are bedridden. Most are somewhere in between.

It takes work and trial and error.

JMO,
Take care,
Nancy

Hello all,
I'm a lurker :) I have a question .....
Does it ever go away completely or is this a lifetime disorder? I have
the
pain & fatigue and now I have swallowing difficulties. I had an
Endoscopy
done and my GI doc said the problem is Fibro.

Everyone is different, Rod. For me, it is constant pain, no
remissions.

I've been to several website dealing with the disease, but some of
the
info is either out of date
or incomplete. What are the common symptoms of the disease ? is the
pain
constant, or does it
come and go ?
