Greetings everyone,

I have been checking in with this forum, off and on, for a couple
of years now. On more than one occassion I have found it to be
very helpful in providing information/guidance to me and others
(family, friends, doctors, etc.). For that, I thank you all.

Before I continue, let me introduce myself. My name is Jon and I
am a Warrant Officer with just over 16 years of service on active
duty in the U.S. Army. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a few
years ago. Of course, I may have had this from an early age, but
severe onset (to the point where I can no longer deny something is
wrong, or brush off the pain as part of getting older) started
early in 2004. I have a P3 profile (for those not in the
military, that means I am non- deployable) and the Medical
Evaluation Board (MEB) recently came to the decision to medically
retire me with 30% disability. Of course, this is far better than
their first decision of separation with severance pay and 10%
disability.

I have mixed feelings about being medically retired. I love my
country and chose to serve her through military service. I want to
stay in as long as I possibly can and continue to serve to the best
of my abilities. However, I am slowly coming to realize I may have
reached those points. My heart, mind, and spirit are more than
willing to continue, but my might, strength, and body do not seem
to have enough to do so. Wtih that in mind, I guess I can accept
being medically retired.

I am at odds with the 30% disability (20% for FMS and 10% for
chronic neck pain) rating since what went before the MEB was an
incomplete evaluation. The percentage will at least open up
several opportunities for me to use when transitioning back to
civilian life, but I cannot seem to shake knowing that it is far
short of what it should be since it their decision was based on
incomplete information. I know I can increase the rating through
the VA, but why should I push that upon them when the Army should
have done it in the first place. I think I am going to appeal
this decision for those reasons.

All of that leads to the purpose of this post...

I would like to know if there are any active/retired members of the
U.S. Armed Forces (men, particularly, but not exclusively) who have
been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia who have either been able to
continue serving in the military or have been medically retired. I
would like to know of your experiences or words of advice as I go
through this process.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Jon...

You're welcome. Welcome to AMF

Be sure to do a google search on perchlorate (rocket fuel) which now
effects thyroids in 38 of our USA states. As far as I'm aware,
there still is no cure for fibromyalgia or ME-itis CFIDS CFS.

Sincerely,

Diana Saba

Fibromyalgia or (ME) CFIDS CFS comes from the lack or under
treatment of one of the things you mention.

And as long as you are doing all your wild conspiracy theories do a
search on Diesel fuel and see now it is more dangerous than ever
because once they added the sulfur the soot (particulate matter)
became smaller than 5 microns so now it "looks" cleaner but you
breath in more particulate matter. (Way to go EPA)

Actually NO!!!. You have it backwards. They reduced the
maximum allowable sulfur content in Diesel fuel to 15 ppm and can fine
any retailer dispensing higher content fuel into motor vehicles 32,500
per day per incident.

http://www.clean-diesel.org/highway.html

Import/produce at least 100% ULSD for on highway use 6/01/10
Downstream from Refineries through Fuel Terminals All highway diesel
must be ULSD 10/01/10
Retail Outlets All highway diesel must be ULSD 12/01/10

"The new standards provide strong incentives for suppliers to provide
the proper ULSD fuel formulation. Civil penalties of up to $32,500 per
violation per day can be assessed for non-compliance with EPA's ULSD
fuel standards, or for misrepresentation of the sulfur level of diesel
fuel."

It seems that someone needs to go do some real homework and be
able to back up their assertions with verifiable evidence. If you
can't cite your sources then you material is hearsay.

Motortrend

I'm not real keen on them. I've seem where they have put out some
bogus information at times. I can't remember just when or on what
subject but I would have to cross reference and verify some of the
things that they say.

and the EPA. Do some searching and find out the real facts.

I did. It seems that you don't like the real facts. The EPA is
the one that is forcing the REDUCTION of sulfur content in Diesel
fuels that you wrote above that they are increasing or adding sulfur
to.

You really are an idiot in this post and I will tell you why.

You can call me anything you want but, unless you can back up
your assertions with verifiable and proven facts, then your word isn't
worth the electrons hitting my screen. I want proof that what you say
is correct. "I said so" doesn't hack it and I don't do other's home
work for them. You substantiate your own assertions with verifiable
material that can be checked, It is not my job to prove you correct.
Try that in a peer reviewed journal or on a debating team.

Diesel is easier to refine yes?

No, it isn't any easier that any other fuel. Where did you get
that nonsense? It comes out of the same distillation process that
gasoline comes from. It is just taken off at a different level.

We know it is.

Just who is this "we" you speak of? Do you have documentation
that backs up your assertion? What are your credentials? Are a
petroleum engineer? Where did you locate this material that supports
your assertion? I want verifiable facts. Maybe I can learn something
but you can't just rattle off some thing that I consider nonsense and
expect me to believe every word of yours when I have learned
otherwise.

Then why does EU who leads the way beat out the US in the numbers of
diesels?

Because they like Diesels maybe? This seems to be an attempt at
a diversion on your part. Why don't you just stick with your "Diesel
causes what ever we have" theory?

Even today dor better or worse I have a diesel truck parked in the US
because it's not worth the price to drive.

Wasting your money on something you don't use. Why don't you sell
it and get one of those hybrids or are you protecting some person from
the effects of your own personal property?

I have one that I drive every where I go. A 3500 GMC, an
ex-utility company trouble truck.

What has this to do with your theory that Diesel particulate
emissions cause fibro or what ever you think we have?

Oh well stick to FMS bud.

I will and you can stick to your conspiracy theory web sites. Btw,
What did they or you find wrong with your scurvy self?

You seem to be getting no better than David or any other idiot
that comes in here with some "cure" for something they didn't have in
the first place. If we don't have FM then what, in your masterful
mind, that the drug companies, in cahoots with all of the doctors and
other medical professionals, not telling us about, do we all have?
