Well, the gal with the 203 lb rottweiler was feeding her mainly
roasted ox hearts (16 lbs would last 4-5 days, if I remember
correctly). Plus anything the dog wanted, the dog got. The lady
claimed that since she was unable to have children, that this was, in
fact, her "daughter." I guess the part that scares me is that were
it a child, it would get ANYthing it wanted (according to her logic
or the lack thereof)...
I'm assuming that "chuckies" must be the meat or protein component,
but I don't know what the heck they are (and for some reason, it
bothers me... not logical, I know).
Agreed on not knowing what is safe any more... we've got the pet food
recalls and then produce being recalled for humans and who knows what
else will follow?!? I know that I'm very fortunate that Kenna
self-regulates her food and simply refuses to eat when she isn't
hungry (including treats... She's the first dog I've known to turn
down food at *any* time, though!). I was worried when, a month or
two after we'd moved, we had to re-establish a vet and get her yearly
vaccinations (and I do the heartworm preventative and flea
preventative year-round, but I get that the standard recommendation
is April to December... I just never, ever want to have to put a dog
through the treatment if I can avoid, as it is given or at least some
years ago it was given directly in the spine and 2 shots exactly 24
hours apart... very painful for the dog and caused arthritis in the
other dog I had about a decade ago... hopefully things have improved,
but I don't want the worry or guilt).
Anyway, Kenna had gained 15 lbs after leaving the stressful life of
the KC Metro and I was worried the vet would want to put her on a
diet. At 93 lbs, this is the most she has weighed, but she has also
filled out and gained a great deal of muscle mass, not fat.
Thankfully, the vet had a look of horror when I asked if Kenna needed
a diet and said that the absolute most she could stand to lose was 5
lbs and that it was *not* enough to cause any significant additional
pressure to her joints/bones/etc. and that an additional short walk
each day would take care of it if I was worried about it. Compared
to a lot of the dogs in this neighborhood, Kenna lives a pretty
sedentary life, although she does get exercise each day (just not as
much, because I cannot physically get very far, so we do a lot of
games of fetch indoors & out so that she can "let steam off" and show
off her skills. :)
Dang. This got long. Pardon my rambling... I'm just so glad I have
Kenna and so glad to be out of such a tumultuous situation as was the
KC Metro.

wow, roasted ox? that's some good eats for a dog I think:-) I can see
her logic though, I have a couple of friends at work, they are so
funny. They are older ladies and they tell people they are gay? but
they haven't had sex since the first year they got together, something
like ten years ago. Anyways, they had three dogs but since both
worked, they couldn't handle them. I got Brodie whom I just love. He
eats litterally anything that doesn't eat him first. He has to have
whatever it is broken up into small pieces though, he won't bite
anything in half to get it into his mouth. He's like 7 years old,
although Jane told me he was only 4......I got the papers on him. He's
a shitz sue.......and then my friend Linda got her minature dash
hound........has gorgeous long red hair. And they kept the little one,
can't remember what breed it is. But man, they spoiled all these dogs
rotten. I don't mind though, he's great company when Jeremy isn't
here.
It's okay to ramble, I do it all the time:-) I was going to mention
though, I read a link someone sent me that says that it's possible that
the toxin will show up in Canada's food supply though, here's the link
if you're interested........
