The idea of Reiki is that it is a method of self improvment to help a
person when connecting with the energy or spirit of the universe, UE,
(what some call God or the Holy Spirit) & asking or directing that
energy to stregthen the energy or spirit of a person to help that person
heal.

I was just wondering if channeling wasn't yet another word for eliciting the "Relaxation Response." You can get the RR by clearing your mind of everything but focusing repeatedly on one thing, like the letter A. After a long while your body relaxes into a quieter state. Doesn't matter what your "mantra" is. Hypnosis is quicker and is done with specific objectives each time. Interesting enough, looking at the same things over and over can produce "road hypnosis" because the mind is lulled uaually into sleep with disastrous results.
