Carol, your experience included a hell of a lot more than a better diet and gentle exercise. Are you then suggesting that what we all need is bariatric surgery and weightloss too?

man, rosie......does your ego ever quit? How arrogant you sound in this post! You sound as if you've been our good teacher and we've all been bad and not kept up with your slant on FM..........like we ain't got the sense God gave a jackass to think things thru for ourselves. If I thought I liked you before, I've sure changed my mind after today! Boy, I'd sure hate to have no hope like you that we have no control over how we feel every single day for the rest of our lives! If I had no hope I'd have to go blow my brains out ! But the fact is I DO feel better and I DO sleep better and I DO have a better outlook on life in general and it's because I DO eat better, I DO do gentle exercise and I DO take supplements to have fewer fibro flares. Now you can accept that or not, I really dont' give a good rats ass. You just hit my kilfile, just cuz you're being an ass today. Maybe when you grow the hell up and realize that there's more than ONE path to the right solution for us then I'll remove you from it. But somehow I don't think that's gonna be anytime soon. I've never seen ANYONE as closed minded as you..

Sure and I have many times, Renee,
FMS is an intractable chronic pain condition that consists of widespread
chronic pain and sleep disturbance and fatigue. Inthatorder. The order is
flipped for CFS.
FM'ers suffer from a lack of (or no) Stage 4 sleep. FM'ers also have at
least a double level of Substance P (a biochemical that enhances the
transmission of pain signals). Some have up to 6 times the amount in their
cerebrospinal fluid as normals do. It takes a spinaltap but it's a
reliableindicatorof the severity of FM any individual has.
And yes,Renee, there are FM'ers who have Primary FM and only that.
Otherwise healthy and hale peoples.
There are other measurable scientific criteria ( such as the ACR tender
point count) and some other common conditions that most FM'ers share. These
other indices are very useful for research as to what could/might/maybe stop
the pain at the root of it. Where that root is is still unknown but the
slate of usual suspects is narrowing. And poor diet and reduced mobility
aren't there....even tho' many in the medical community make it convenient
to their bottom line at tax time for it to be so. I despise what the
Cleveland Clinic is pulling on us FM'ers. Might as well see Dr, Dean Edell
for help, eh? And what's wrong with opiates for severe FM pain that nothing
else masks? Better than self-medicating with alcohol any day...because ppl.
in pain get blue brains ( on the PET scan) and alcohol is a depressant.
Given these undeniable facts of just the first 2...what will help give us
Stage 4 sleep AND reduce the amount of Substance P in our brains and spinal
cords?
Ain't diet nor exercise. Most of what we eat never gets to our brains
anyway because the blood/brain barrier blocks most larger molecules. Only a
few very critical smaller ones get thru...so whut has diet to do with it? If
there's anything Deeds tried to make clear it was this. She was looking into
ATP and the mitochondria in every cell as where the dysfunction starts and
that could pan out too. Which would mean our mothers are to blame that we
get FM. LOL
I know tons of FM'ly that go to sleep exhausted and wake up that way.
Exhaust yerself summore burning up those calories and see if it makes one
whit of difference to the amount of restorative sleep ya get. It doesn't and
that's a scientific fact...a measurable neurological artifact that's readily
reproducible.
I'm sure Acoftil will see the humor in our sitting around eating loads
of turkey for the brain and sleep benefits and then we wind up as IF drugged
out and lazily lolling on our couches. Can you even believe anyone would be
back to that kind of description of FM'ers? Wasn't that pre-2000 that the
ignorant MD's were saying that of FM wimmenz? 200o at the latest,
anyway...unless there are pus pockets in the medical establishment reforming
as we speak.
So I'm counting on neuroscience to be our solution. The neurologists
actually are starting to sit up and take notice because of "numbers too big
to ignore".
Yes, I trust the science to solve the puzzle. They said it wouldn't
happen for HIV and now it's in most cases a situation of supply and demand
rather than a death or disability sentence.
But this diet and exercise stuff...with nothing but "because I said
so"as medicine to help? No way, no how, fergitaboudit.
Ain't gonna be hair of the dog homeopathy, tho'...ya BRAT ya. LOL I'm
still immune from fog as of this moment annd I don't forget.
Sheesh...I take a little time off and ya all backslide and fergit whut
you know about FM facts. Who's the slackers, huh?
I'm really worried about Lampy and johnie and Kathy in Sacto dieting
and exercising themselves into tiny little dust motes and being blown away
because they aren't starting out with much to speak of right now! <ducking>
Perhaps that's what happened to the already skinny and sleep deprived Kathi
the #1 Poster, hmmm?
