Caring and Concerned Diabetic lecture on:
Carol--you are killing yourself. You need to count your carbohydrates and find
a level that you can tolerate, without your numbers going so high.
yams are very high in carbohydrates, so that and sugar would elevate your BG
levels. Sugar is a carbohydrate in any form. If you use a small amount in your
tea each morning, you must remove some carbohydrate elsewhere in your meal plan.
Bread is high in carbohydrates.
I use 1/2 teaspoon sugar in my half coffee, half milk in the morning. I
generally adjust for it by not eating "white" foods. (but it also includes all
bread, including whole wheat.
Stress and illness can also raise your BG levels--but it is temporary.
Use your meter to test after meals to see what foods affect you, and in what
ways (BG). Your meter is your best tool and it looks like you use it! Good
for you! :)
Whoever told you that just loosing weight would "cure" your diabetes lied to
you. Some people do improve their lipids, A1C and fasting BG levels. But, it
won't cure diabetes. You can gain control.
Some people control their diabetes with exercise and weight alone. You may be
able to do this eventually.
If you do not take this seriously, you will have complications, such as foot
problems, reduced circulation in your lower body, sight problems, heart
problems, and much more. Please call the doctor who is monitoring your
diabetes. It sounds like you could use some help. :)
Have you been to news:alt.support.diabetes ? They have a really good FAQ and
tons of support.
My Fasting BG was 99, last time I checked. But that is a false reading, because
I'm not eating enough--I've got eating issues and they come and go. Right now,
I'm just loosing more weight, which I don't need.

pineapple, yum:-).
I don't know what the deal is but the past couple of weeks? My blood sugars
have been running really high whenever I eat anything that's a single sugar.
I ate some organic fruit spread on indian bread on Saturday and I got the
jitters really bad. Checked my blood sugar ( I have a history of low sugars
prior to surgery) and it was 246 ! So yesterday I ate some yams with
alittle raw sugar sprinkled over them and it shot up to 202. I hadn't had
issues with raw sugar and have used it almost daily in herbal tea so I don't
know what is going on. weight loss surgery is supposed to pull a person out
of being a diabetic, not throw you into it! It's really a mystery, this
body of mine:-(

If my dam body didn't hurt so bad I'd still be running around like a kid
playing paintball but for now I'll just shoot marshmallow's at you guys and
diet marshmallow's at Carol LOL
You remember that I'm diabetic? I don't eat regular marshmallows. I'd have
to
check the ingredients of the other kind (low carb), because if they use
anything
but Splenda, they will not taste good to me. I'd rather eat some fruit.
