Re: Disappointed with the recent contents of this site

One difference is that Usenet groups
are created by charter and once created they're hard, if not impossible,
to change to a moderated group if they weren't created as one.

Hey Vashti-

Have you been out to alt.config lately?  They are doing crazy things,
like allowing you to change the name of your group and the charter
process is virtually gone.

Are you sure that's not just the newgroupers mucking about as usual? It
has been possible to "just" write a charter and post a newgroup message
forever... the problem was getting NNTP servers to carry your new group.
Having a justification and charter discussion makes it a lot easier to
get your group to propogate AFAIK, without that background one might have
to email each server admin asking them to carry the group, you know?

And no: I've *not* been out there lately, LOL! Not my fave group by
far.<g>

I'm not totally up on everything, but I do get news via my moderators
list.

Wait- you *read* a moderator's list??? Damned show-off, you! ;-) Reading
mail from mods moderating the same group, I can understand... mail from
posters too but anything more would be far too *efficient* and organised
for me I think.

Since there is no traffic on AMFRI and it IS work for me anyway, I'm
thinking of making it an open group.  I am just tired of doing the work
when no one is interested in the group.

How would that work? Sending a booster newgroup message or something like
that to remove the moderated flag so post goes staight to the group or
would the submission addy forward to the group? I'm not sure easing up
too much would work well... I'd think there'd be even more orphan groups
and failed groups than there are now.

Wish I could help you with the modding- pity you're running on Windows
software... it'd be a pity to give up on it, I think there is a potential
for the group- especially with the Dutch FAQs! Who translated them?
