I thought living in Montana had a lot of risks, but the past few years in
Iowa have been hell in the spring and summer. We had a tornado warning
where I live in SE Des Moines -- not all unusual, but the warning time
lasted over an hour. Funnel clouds were spotted all over the place and a
couple small ones touched down in a small town. People who have lived here
all their lives are kind of like people in California -- they become a
little too blasé about the warnings. They believe crazy "old wive's tales"
about tornadoes like a tornado doesn't hit a city that's situated between 2
rivers. Oh, yeah, I'm sure.....
This has already been a bad year for tornadoes and the season is just
beginning. After all the hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, I'm
seriously thinking that God is getting a little miffed and telling us to
shape up or ship out! Just my own personal opinion.
We live in an apartment complex and none of the buildings have basements.
We've already got our little plan for just-in-case -- I throw all my meds in
my purse, DD gathers up the dog, and we head for the bathroom, which is
windowless and has a heavy old bathtub. DS gathers up the kids and does the
same. My DD has strict orders to NOT think of ME, to just take the dog and
get into the tub.
Yesterday's warning was the 3rd one already this spring. Yikes - for the
rest of the summer.

I've just read about the horrible storms that have been spawning
tornados in the region. 23 people were killed! I did not realize the
weather was that deadly.

All my good thoughts go out to those affected and I hope all the FM'ly
were spared the worst of it.
Protective hugs,
