Kristy,
Don't be in a hurry to get rid of your natural teeth. Some people are fine with
dentures, but others regret it for the rest of their lives. There is no
guarantee that the dentures will not cause major pain from pressure points and
friction, no matter how much time and money is spent on getting a 'perfect fit'.
There is no such thing as a 'perfect fit', not the least because, once the teeth
are out, the gums shrink. If they shrink too much, there is nothing to stick the
dentures to, and they will move around causing endless problems.
How do I know this? I saw what my parents went through after yanking all their
teeth in their late 50s. I swore then that I would never, ever do that, even if
I had to replace every tooth with a post and cap!
So if your teeth can be saved, take the trouble to save them.
YMMV, but for me, I'd rather keep my own...it's worth it if at all possible.

Anyone here have dentures? I had a tooth hurting badly and went in (don't
have insurance at the moment but will hopefully in April) and had to have a
root canal. It took me 3 days in bed to recover. Well, the root canal
wasn't done properly so I have to go back in. Not only that but I have 3
more root canals and 4 other cavities to fill. Now, I'm not afraid of the
dentist but since I've had fibro I've avoided going because sitting hurts
and I couldn't bear the thought of 2 or more hours in a dental chair and
propping my jaw open as wide as possible as well. So now that I have all
this work to be done which will be quite expensive I was thinking about
getting dentures. I know that won't be completely pain free either but will
be hugely less expensive and money is an issue and also I just don't want to
go through the pain of sitting in the chair and all the waiting, etc.
Getting dentures is basically a few visits of getting your teeth pulled,
getting the dentures made, and then having them fitted to your gums. Then
you're done and you don't have to worry about cavities anymore. Has anyone
had any experience with this and what do you think? My mom has dentures and
she says they're great although she does get a sore spot now and then in her
mouth.
