Re: My shoulders

Hi Deb! It's a great idea -- and I tried it a few years ago. I bought a
camping type air mattress and put it on top of my bed. It worked very well
at the time. When we moved to Iowa, I saved and bought a full-sized Aero
Bed mattress. I didn't have a bed to put it on for a couple of years, and
when I finally got one from my cousin, I put the Aero Bed on top of the bed.
It was wonderful!

The problem I had with it, though was getting into and out of bed. :)
It was very difficult to get all "situated" and get my pillows where I
needed them, and get hooked up to my CPAP. My daughter had to come in and
"tuck me in!" Role Reversals, indeed! LOL

Then, when I had to get up (at least a couple of times a night to go to the
bathroom), it was extremely painful to get all the pillows out of the way
and get out of bed. I had to actually *roll* off the bed and I had trouble
hitting the floor without landing on my behind. I don't have much strength
in my arms and shoulders and couldn't prop myself up with my arms.

I do use my tennis ball sock frequently. I have 2 of them in one of my
son's old tube socks. That way I can flip it over my shoulder and aim for
the exact spot I need it. When the knots in my back and shoulders have me
crying with pain, I back up to the wall and put all my weight and strength
into getting those tennis balls smashed into my back/shoulders. I know I'm
doing it right when I catch my breath and nearly faint from the sharp pain.
Then, in the evening, I put the sock behind me in the same spot, lay back on
the recliner, and go to sleep. The first few minutes are hell, but the pain
gradually subsides enough to let me sleep. I've often woken up the next
morning still on the sock, right where I put it the night before -- and the
sharp pain is Gone! YES!! That tennis ball in a sock thing has been the
most helpful thing I've ever tried for that sharp muscle and nerve pain.
Whoever invented that thing was brilliant.

You are a dear for thinking of me. I appreciate it!

René

Rene, what you said about any pressure hurting you so much made me think
of something - I have NO idea if this could help you at all, but you know
the blowup thingies that you buy for swimming pools to lie on? I wonder if
you got one of them, blew it up and put it on top of your mattress and lay
on it???? hmmmmm probably a dumb idea..... sorry that the pain affects
you that way - I'm the opposite - I will tape a tennis ball onto the wall
and put my shoulder on it and just grind away! I love going to
chiropractor and having them snap, crackle and pop all over me :-) I'm one
of those eejits who used to get my kids to sit/stand and jump on my back
when they were little .....and bigger :-) I know, I know, I have two
clues; one's lost and the other one's out looking for it :-)
