Actually the current vehicle black boxes are programmable with all
kinds of potential. I can control the GPS function in my phone easily
so I think I will keep it. I keep GPS turned off except if using 911. I
don't carry one in my name anyway. The drivers license chip looks like
the most problematic for folks concerned with issues of privacy.
It was just revealed that here in arizona Qwest has been selling
customer phone records to the highest bidder. I Don't use em but this
is a bad infringement of private information.
' they ' will get us all under their thumb one way or the other but we
do need to keep fighting back as we can.

The chip we have and use right now is not GPS traceable. It's a small pellet
that emits a serial number and can me programmed to hold other info.
If your worried about being tracked I'd suggest most of you throw your cell
phone away then because most are GPS enabled and easily tracked.
Besides a GPS unit in a human or pet would need a long source of power and
the unit would be the size of a pace maker. I think that's a little
invasive.
Half you you only know what's on Google about you. Do you know what other
data bases there are out there that have all your info? The online medical
data base alone is absurd but when used as intended is a great thing.
This is just one example http://www.chime.org/ChimeData/ChimeData.asp

Right now it's a food-animal ID ( horses are in the system, even tho
we don't consume them in the US) but eventually, the USDA wants to
have every animal ID'd, and they can track it's movements via GPS.
every animal owner will end up registering wheree the animal lives
and that gets an ID # as well. The USDA will have the authority to
enter your property *anytime* they think there is something to
investigate. i posted a bunch of links for more in depth reading....
but i'm not in favor of Big Bro tracking me and my service-dog ( she
does not have a chip, and i won't get her one now, she never leavews
my side as it is <g>)
fran,
I'm not sure I understand what's going on with these chips. My 8
indoor cats have appointments next week to get microchipped for ID
purposes should they ever get outside/lost. They refuse to wear
collars and my vet discourages them since he's seen the result of
too many getting caught in branches and strangling even wearing
breakaway collars. So he encourages microchips if affordable.
Since like you this is our choice, is there anything about privacy I
should know.
My vet said after they get the chips we re-register each with the
mfgr of the company that makes the chips otherwise the chip would
just say the name of the vet.

Done. Our dogs have chips, but that was our choice and not
mandated. If this actually became a law, I would consider never
having a chip implanted again, and would also consider removing any
chip in my animal. What an invasion of privacy. If they were
concerned about the safety of the food supply they would not need
to chip tropical fish, birds or animals other than those typically
eaten. --fran
