Re: Oxycontin and FMS

Like Rosie and others I usually always top post and we've been over this
netiquette issue before. Some netiquette sites nix bottom posting and
others nix top posting. Bottom posting drives me nutz but I deal with
it.

It also drives me nuts when ppl write looooooooong msgs all in lower
case and w/o paragraphs because my eyes jump around, get double vision
and or blurry (likely the cataracts) so I can't read those posts and
wish I could. Lack of paragraphs is really annoying but again I deal
with it. Nobody made me the queen of the unmoderated NG so I figure
just go with the flow.

I'm pasting all the netiquette links I posted in January 2004 when
Kiyoshi was still here and this topic came up. That post was SJ
Netiquette in bulk and came as a result of SJ OT long posts J Here they
are. Happy reading. Those SJ's should be googleable :)

I realize I am 'top' posting *and* making this a long post; hopefully
for helpful reasons. I've posted individual netiquette sites and
multiple sites as I am here off and on since I joined the NG - can't
make ppl read or follow the 'rules' so just have to be flexible. I
think I'll also make a separate post should anyone be interested in
reading or filing the sites.

Hi Kiyoshi,

Proving your point this is what I found on netiquette sites, e.g.

January 3, 2004
http://www.mvps.org/access/netiquette.htm
8.Be thoughtful of bandwidth and other folks' thought processes.
a. Trim the messages you are replying to.
i. Include quotes, but not excessive ones.
ii. The standard rule of thumb is to include only enough to
"jog" the person's memory.
iii. Please include =something= of the message you are replying
to however. With 300+ messages a day, it's not always easy
to remember what was discussed!

And many news-reading programs are slow, so just opening a posted note
or article can take a while. Then the reader has to wade through all the
header information to get to the meat of the message. No one is pleased
when it turns out not to be worth the trouble. See "Netiquette for
Discussion Groups" on page 65 for detailed rules.

Trimming is something I (and others) need to work on. I'm getting
better but there's always room for improvement. :) Respecting tried and
true works for me.

Not old fashioned (nor are you) as
good manners never go out of style, Jo

Trimming has been the "habit" since the beginning of usenet. I don't
believe it is unrealistic to expect people new to usenet to respect
tried-and-true netiquette standards. But then, I may just be old
fashioned.

Just some sites I found. Excuse no OT. Should netiquette be OT?
While alot of info is repetitive, advice and even 'rules' vary
on different sites.

It is generally considered rude to post private e-mail correspondence
without the permission of the author of that mail, and furthermore, it's
likely a copyright violation as well.

When someone posts an off-subject note, and someone else criticizes that
posting, you should NOT submit a gratuitous note saying "well, I liked
it and lots of people probably did as well and you guys ought to lighten
up and not tell us to stick to the subject".

Take the time to edit any quotations down to the minimum necessary to
provide context for your reply. Nobody likes reading a long message in
quotes for the third or fourth time, only to be followed by a one line
response: "Yeah, me too."

Resist the temptation to "flame" others

If you or whoever don't like it..too bad. That's how it is and as far as

So continue complaining if ya must, Mikey dear...but it won't change
what I do and it'll fall on deaf ears for me. Here and at the Gimp NG it's
post any which way you can as the accepted convention. I do indeed dearly
wish that some who complain about posting style would find another thing to
complain about.

To both of you guyz: play nice at AMF.Ya don't want to piss off Rosie.

And so it would seem that your responses didn't make the
