I took this test some time ago, but don't recall my scores. I have a
printout in a folder somewhere, I've been taking a lot of these screeners
and online tests, and they all put me on the Autism Spectrum as a a possible
Aspie. This one definitely did, and my Now score was lower than my Before
score, but I developed coping mechanisms over the years.
I went and dug out my school records from years ago. All the career and
vocational tests gave me high scores for my reading and spelling ability,
and my aptitude for technical mechanical type stuff. My academic IQ ranged
in the upper percentiles, amazing when I read notes on my report cards and
such. My 3rd grade teacher wrote that I showed a total lack of interest in
school. That's cuz I was *bored* to death. I didn't put enough effort into
classwork, wasn't attentive in class, etc. I daydreamed a lot, or would get
fixated on something to the exclusion of everything else. Yet I passed tests
and got mostly A's and B's, except for Math, which I passed with C's or D's.
I also had definite stim behavior, pencil chewing was a biggie, plus
twirling a lock of hair with my left hand. It seems that one foot is always
in motion, can never stay perfectly still. For the longest time, I could not
snap my fingers, my motor skills were poor.
On a physical form, a doctor suggested that I might have a problem of an
emotional nature needing evaluation, which was never done, being that I went
to a Catholic school. My parents never really paid attention, I was so quiet
and emotionally fragile, and pretty much kept to myself, that they didn't
see any problems. With 7 children, others got more attention due to negative
behavior, my quietness was almost a blessing. I was invisible much of the
time. As I entered my teen years, I became a little more outgoing and
social, but made lots of blunders along the way, because of my lack of
understanding of social cues. I learned by making mistakes along the way,
what was the correct way to interact with others socially. There clearly are
Autists on my father's side of the family, one uncle is classic Aspie,
though none have a formal diagnosis, because Asperger's is relatively new to
the DSMV, even Autism itself is. There are a lot of undiagnosed adult's ou
there. Trying to find a clinician who specializes in adult Auties and Aspies
is not easy. As I get older (mid 40's now, just had a B-Day in Jan.), I find
myself reverting to earlier symptoms and behaviors. And I definitely
perseverate, and do not multi-task well.
