The spirochetes can certainly adapt to conditions. They
penetrate the tissue, why bother swimming around in the
blood? They have been found in the meninges, but not in the
same person's cerebrospinal fluid, in another's synovium,
but not in the synovial fluid. So attempts to culture them
from blood or urine are destined to have poor success.
Speaking of poor prospects, antibiotic therapy may not be
adequate for the task either. Because they can form a coccoid
form to protect themselves from unsatisfactory conditions,
then return to spirochete form after the antibiotic regimen is
over.
Hadn't really planned to let myself get into a info dump about
Lyme, and have generally left it alone because I found it so
frustrating. But the woman being so sure that her doctor was managing
her appropriately because of negative blood testing
really pissed me off.
She had grown up in New Jersey and came to Kentucky after she
was having FMS in a major fashion, she had wanted to go where
it was a little warmer in the winter. Does she have Lyme or
Adult Rickets? Hell, that's not for me to say. After all,
she's diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and that little niche
is where she'll likely stay.
But I did tell her about this newsgroup, so if she's reading
this and her ears are burning, and is thinking about posting
here or in some other thread, she needs to remember that
I reminded her not to mention knowing me.
