Seems you've been on this roller coaster long enough and now you need a break.
I think it was probably for the best that this happened. It would have been
just too disappointing to do all that for an even more stressful situation than
what you have now.
You can still sell your house and stay in the area where your family is. In
fact, it will probably sell better if you put it on the market in spring.
These things usually work out for the best, and I hope they will for you.
