Begin by assuming honesty on both sides. You'll be happier, unlike
some folks who think the world is filled with dishonest cheats. I only
say this because you may get some advice suggesting the seller is
trying to pull a fast one.
To "cancel" the transaction on eBay is simple. You and he agreed to
end it, so you are finished.
The seller should rightfully want his eBay fee (called a Final Value
Fee) refunded, and eBay will do so. He will take the action to file
for it; you'll get an email from eBay asking you to verify it's true
(again the mistrust thing is alive and well at eBay). Just click on
the "yes it's okay" response, and you're finished.
Things happen. Treat him as you want him to treat you if you sold
something that you then accidentally broke.
