what miner didn't quote was:
"The online auction company said in a statement Thursday that it
bought
the three MercExchange patents it had been accused of violating. The
price was not disclosed; eBay said the figure would not materially
affect
its financial results."
One might observe:
1. eBay thinks the patents are strong enough that they didn't
want to risk the outcome of further litigation.
2. eBay now owns these patents.
3. Other auction sites have BIN-like selling.
4. eBay has lawyers.
