How many accounts per day do you suppose that is? There are the ones suspended for cause, some permanent some temporary; there are the ones who request to be unregistered; and there are those that are closed because the member is no longer living. Maybe 200 a day? What kind of stress on the servers will that be? eBay has been operating with feedback since the fall of 1995, and some people have left thousands of feedback in that time. Stability of the servers has increased tremendously since 1999 when the last big crash happened, but the servers that feedback is on are not like the servers that the auction listings are on. They didn't anticipate deletions, only additions. You know how difficult it has been to get older comments removed. If it's more than six months, they haven't done it. Now they will.
Did Donohoe and Cobb talk to the tech side before announcing this?

I doubt it. But there's lots of ways to cover it. They don't
necessarily have to delete the feedback; they can just put
a "marker" on it, and not display/calculate it.

Actually, when they "remove" feedback now, they don't actually remove it, they just hide it. I think that the more they meddle with things, the worse it could get. The ones making these decisions are not the ones who built the system or know how to maintain it. They're the "idea" people. They dream up crap, then tell eBay Technologies to implement it. But never how to do it.
