I was initially impressed with one vendor who is at
http://stores.ebay.com/Atlaz-International because he seemed to get away
from the nickel and dime stuff by listing some items of more than $10
000. I
figured that $10 000 items must make some money, even with a small margin.
But then I looked at his feedback page to see the sales price of what he was
selling. I went back a few months, but I don't think there was any sale of
more than $500. Just to add a twist, some of those listed items look pretty
cheap (I checked) but he still can't get any sale on any of them. I might be
wrong, but the stigma of being on eBay might actually make it impossible to
sell
I just don't see how selling eBay is a way to make any money, but I have
sympathy for people who try.
It is when you can sell more expensive items at a good profit.
a $10,000 item that brings in $60 profit (after expenses) is a terrible
way to make a living.
agreed, if you have to hold the item in stock for a while and or get occasionally screwed. But if you sell 4 such items each and every day it's a pretty good business.
The odds of selling four $10,000 items per month on eBay is utterly neglible. The odds of selling four of them per day on eBay is ludicrous.
eBay prices seem to obey a modified Rayleigh distribution.
The profitable transactions would seem to sharlply peak somewhere between $29 and $49.
Which is why you simply cannot afford to pay for your merchandise.
Hence the minimum 30:1 SBR.

You are overall correct, which is why I don't understand all these people selling $3 to $8 items. Anytime you sell something for less than $10 you are losing money, even if the item cost you nothing. The time spent listing the item, posting feedback, packing it and bringing it to the post office is worth $10. Factor in that you have to spend time obtaining the item and it's a loser game.
The $29 to $49 range looks pretty good to me; but I see the problem is to find enough such items, and to be able to sell 3 to 5 of them each and every day.
With a 70 percent sellthru and a seven day listing, you only need list 50 items at any given time.
Listing 400 items is required for anything remotely profitable.
